IFC Backs Ghana’s Next Growth Push as Ato Forson Meets Makhtar Diop

The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has received the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mr Makhtar Diop, at the Ministry of Finance for discussions on Ghana’s economic progress and plans to promote private-sector-led growth.

The meeting focused on the Government’s next phase of economic transformation, with particular attention to commercial agriculture, value addition and job creation.

Dr Forson identified sugar, cocoa processing, palm oil and poultry as priority areas where increased private-sector investment could help expand production, strengthen domestic value chains and create employment.

The Finance Minister also highlighted Ghana’s ambition to position itself as the pharmaceutical hub of West Africa, pointing to the sector as an important area for investment and industrial development.

The discussions come as the Government seeks to build on recent improvements in the economy by encouraging greater private-sector participation in productive sectors.

Mr Diop, for his part, commended Ghana’s recent economic progress, particularly the reduction in inflation, and assured Dr Forson of the IFC’s continued support for the country’s development agenda.

The engagement underscores the importance of private capital in financing Ghana’s next phase of economic transformation, particularly in sectors capable of generating jobs and increasing the domestic processing of agricultural and other resources.

The IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, works with businesses and investors to support private-sector development in emerging markets.

The meeting between Dr Forson and Mr Diop therefore represents another engagement between Ghana and the IFC as the country seeks to attract investment into productive sectors and deepen private-sector-led economic growth.
