President John Dramani Mahama’s address to the 80th United Nations General Assembly has been hailed as one of the most stirring interventions on the global stage, drawing praise for its conviction and clarity.

In his speech, President Mahama called for Africa to be granted its rightful place on the UN Security Council after eight decades of exclusion. “Africa deserves its seat at the table,” he declared, echoing a demand many have long voiced but few leaders have delivered with such force.

The Ghanaian leader also criticized what he described as the world’s “lukewarm” response to the Palestinian crisis, urging the UN to act decisively and proactively. He then shifted focus to the continent’s future, asserting that Africa’s strength lies in its youthful population — an “unstoppable force” of talent and innovation that is not only growing but thriving.

Observers noted that Mahama’s message, enriched with historical references and forward-looking vision, resonated far beyond the General Assembly Hall, with reactions rippling across the globe.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Adviser to the President, praised the speech for its cadence and conviction, describing it as “Communication 101.” She said Mahama had turned the UN into a “proverbial town square,” a space where leaders could speak candidly about the issues shaping the world’s destiny.

For many Ghanaians and Africans watching, Mahama’s words were a source of pride — a reminder, Mogtari said, that “we must pause and appreciate leaders who dare to speak our truths and carry our voices onto the world stage.”
