Government Extends Fuel Price Relief Measures
Accra Evening News
The Government has announced a further intervention aimed at cushioning consumers against rising fuel prices, following a review of developments on the international petroleum market.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition on Thursday, Government disclosed that Cabinet, chaired by President John Dramani Mahama, approved the continuation of temporary relief measures to ease pressure at the pumps.
The statement noted that an earlier intervention introduced on 16th April, 2026 saw Government absorb GHS2.00 per litre on diesel and GHS0.36 per litre on petrol to mitigate the effects of escalating global fuel prices driven largely by geopolitical tensions. That measure was initially expected to end on 15th May.
However, after a fresh review, Government has decided to continue support on diesel by absorbing GHS1.07 per litre effective 16th May, 2026. Authorities say the intervention, expected to remain in place for two pricing windows subject to review, is intended to ensure the sustainable distribution of petroleum products nationwide while providing continued relief to consumers.
